The medal of Louis XI, the only one by Francesco Laurana not intended for the court of Anjou, was no doubt designed under the patronage of René of Anjou as a diplomatic gift, perhaps on the occasion of the Peace of October 1465, which put an end to the League of the Public Weal (Ligue du Bien Public), or for the betrothal of his grandson Nicolas of Anjou to Anne of France, daughter of Louis XI, in August 1466.
